At LenderClose, our team members come from many different backgrounds and constantly find ways to spark greatness within their teams. To show the appreciation for the amazing members of our #DreamTeam, LenderClose began a Team Member Spotlight series, which highlights one team member each month.
This month, LenderClose is putting the spotlight on Erika DeMers, Implementation Specialist, who has been part of Team LenderClose since November 2018.
If you could write your own job title that best describes what you do here, what would it be and why?
The Swiss Army Knife – my role works with all LenderClose departments and also directly with our clients, and with that wide range of experience, I can offer valuable tools and perspectives. Being swift, flexible and handy is vital to my position as the industry and borrower needs can quickly change.
What is something lenders/lending industry have to deal with that you want to fix?
Telling their borrowers “no.” It’s painful to hear loan officers turning away loans because the process is too complicated, takes too long, or they simply don’t have the resources to lend. Our goal at LenderClose is to ease real estate lending and free up capacity and effort. I get to implement a simple solution and when any or all of those issues are “fixed” is usually when the client says “I can’t believe we weren’t doing this before!”
What credentials/past experience prepared you for working in your position?
I previously worked at a credit union as a loan officer and have also been on the other side as a borrower. Networking and knowing others in the banking industry has also offered unique insights that have helped in my role, and made it fun.
What do you enjoy about the work you do?
I thoroughly enjoy being a part of the lender’s experience throughout the implementation of our technology. I have the unique opportunity to be able to impact the industry, for both lenders and borrowers. As a company that offers nationwide service, I also really enjoy traveling and building networks all over the country.
What hobbies, volunteering or passion projects do you do outside of work?
I’m passionate about the credit union movement. One of the things I participate in annually is the Iowa Sister Society Summit, an event designed to cultivate and connect a network of women (and men!) who champion women’s leadership and contribute to the evolution of our credit union industry. This year’s event is in November and is being held virtually. I’m excited that LenderClose not only supports my passion but is an event sponsor. Outside of LenderClose, I enjoy riding my bike, rollerblading with my 7-year-old daughter, reading books for a book club with my girlfriends and going to stand up comedy shows, as I hope to one day get the guts to do my own stand-up bit!
