LenderClose team members come from many different backgrounds and constantly find ways to spark greatness. The Team Member Spotlight series highlights one of our team members each month. This month, the spotlight is on Scott Meier, Sales Executive of the western region, who has been at LenderClose since June 2021.
If you could write your own job title that best describes what you do here, what would it be and why?
I’ve worked in the credit union industry for over 14 years, and my dad retired from the industry after 36 years at the same institution. That’s why I’d title myself Credit Union Nerd, because I grew up fully immersed in the credit union industry. I love the “People Helping People” philosophy and I now get to help borrowers all over the country.
What is something lenders/lending industry have to deal with that you want to fix?
The “we’ve always done it this way” mentality. I’ve seen it throughout my career and with my credit union friends and colleagues. It can be hard to be the first person to do something different and challenge the status quo, but it can really change your life and your borrowers’ lives.
What credentials/past experience prepared you for working in your position?
I’ve been everything from a front line teller to a lending manager. I’ve worked at a $1.5 billion credit union and a $65 million credit union, and had the opportunity to receive my CCUE from CUNA Management School in Madison, WI. Having that experience, I’m able to better identify the problems that my partners are facing and work with them to find solutions.
What do you enjoy about the work you do?
Working at LenderClose gives me the opportunity to talk with financial institutions all over the country and learn more about their processes. Even if I’m not able to help them that exact day, it gives me the chance to nerd out with them on all things home equity and credit union.
What hobbies, volunteering or passion projects do you do outside of work?
I love to write, and I even co-wrote a superhero comic book with a buddy of mine that we published by funding it through Kickstarter. At one point, we were the highest funded comic in Iowa. I’ve also written a children’s comic book that I’m working on finishing currently. I also really enjoy working out, and I previously owned a 24/7 fitness center before moving to Des Moines.
