LenderClose team members come from many different backgrounds and constantly find ways to spark greatness. The Team Member Spotlight series highlights one of our team members each month. This month, the spotlight is on Wes Peterson, Relationship Manager, who has been at LenderClose since March 2019.
If you could write your own job title that best describes what you do here, what would it be and why?
Relationship Manager is a pretty descriptive title, but it sounds a little too passive for what we do on a daily basis. We are Relationship Makers. Nothing is more fun than building genuine friendships with people and helping them solve their problems and achieve their goals, and that’s exactly what we get to do. We get to build genuine relationships with our partners and consult with them on how we can deliver the best borrower experience to their customers.
I love getting to know people and working with them to problem solve. We frequently reach out to get to know who we are working with on a personal level and, when it is safe, we will continue to travel and go out and meet our partners in person like we used to. With this personal touch we are able to truly understand what their pain points are, so we can solve them with technology and process efficiency. Much of the technology improvements and developments stem from the conversations and close relationships we have with our partners.
What is something lenders/lending industry have to deal with that you want to fix?
I often want to challenge their way of thinking. Change can be good! We put new tools in our partners hands to make the lending experience easy for their staff, and fast and convenient for their borrowers. Lenders need to give their customers the best experience they can. I help make the borrower experience excellent with the tools we have to offer making the lender confident and the borrower happy.
What credentials/past experience prepared you for working in your position?
Building trusting relationships while lobbying at the Iowa state capitol and in Washington DC was an intense course on building real, trusting, and meaningful relationships. When you have a trusting relationship you can achieve many things. With those types of friendships, you can really enhance collaboration and consultation to achieve the goals of those they are trying to serve.
What do you enjoy about the work you do?
We build genuine friendships with our clients, and I love collaborating with them on how we can make their lives easier. I love problem solving, and that’s exactly what we get to do. Many of the technology advancements we make are based on direct feedback on how we can solve a problem for the partners we serve. We get to consult with our partners who become our friends, to achieve their goals. What could be more satisfying than that!?
What hobbies, volunteering or passion projects do you do outside of work?
I love to run, golf and watch sports, but my passion beyond that is upward mobility. I have spent a long time in the political field, and my passion for doing that was providing an atmosphere and resources to improve the lives of anyone – no matter their background. That can still be tied into what we do by making the lending experience as fast and efficient as possible so that banks and credit unions can give their customers the equity they have earned and deserve so they can continue to improve their lives.
What are you most looking forward to in 2021?
I have lived in Des Moines for over 14 years, and I have been part of Team LenderClose since 2019. I’m really excited to celebrate my two year work anniversary in March!
I’m blessed to have two of the sweetest children I could ever ask for. And some really great coworkers, too! Looking forward to seeing what the new year brings. Happy 2021, everybody!
